Boxing star Gervonta “Tank” Davis was taken into custody Wednesday night in Miami, ending a two-week search tied to serious criminal allegations. Authorities arrested the 31-year-old former three-division world champion on charges of battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping.
The Miami Gardens Police Department, working alongside the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force, located Davis in the Miami Design District and apprehended him without incident. He was later booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Davis remains in custody on a $16,000 bond as he awaits his first court appearance.
“The Miami Gardens Police Department has arrested Gervonta Bryant Davis in connection with an incident reported at a Miami Gardens business on Oct. 27, 2025,” police said. “On [Wednesday], MGPD’s special investigations section, along with the United States Marshals fugitive task force, located and took the subject into custody without incident in the Miami Design District.”
The arrest stems from an alleged encounter at a Miami strip club on Oct. 27. According to police, Davis confronted his former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, who was working as a VIP cocktail server. Rossel reported that Davis dragged her through multiple areas of the building and into a parking garage, where she said he “grabbed, choked, pushed, pulled and struck” her. Surveillance footage reportedly supported her account.
Rossel, who said she had known Davis for about five years and dated him for several months in 2025, filed a police report two days later and later pursued a civil lawsuit. Her complaint describes multiple alleged incidents of abuse and threats, including episodes in September. Attempts to serve Davis with legal papers were unsuccessful, despite at least nine documented efforts. Rossel’s attorney, Jeff Chukwuma, said the arrest matched the details laid out in the lawsuit, adding that investigators concluded there was sufficient evidence to seek a warrant.
Davis has faced prior legal trouble, including domestic violence allegations that were later dropped and a 2020 hit-and-run case in Baltimore, for which he received probation and house arrest. It remains unclear how the current charges could impact that probation.
In the ring, Davis owns a career record of 30-0-1 with 28 knockouts, his only blemish a draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March. He had been training for a high-profile bout against Jake Paul scheduled for Nov. 14 in Miami, but that event was canceled after the lawsuit was filed. Anthony Joshua is now set to replace him in a December matchup against Paul.
Earlier this month, the World Boxing Association removed Davis from its active lightweight champion listing, reclassifying him as a “champion in recess,” which allows him to challenge for the title if he returns to competition.
