UFC Legend Georges St-Pierre Announces His Retirement

UFC legend Georges St-Pierre announced his retirement on Thursday in Montreal. St-Pierre said in a statement, “it takes a lot of discipline to become and stay champion. It also takes a lot of discipline to stop while still feeling that you’re in the best physical and mental shape of your life, but I’ve always planned to leave the sport when I’m at the top and in good health.”

St-Pierre, 37, is a former two-division champion and the most successful welterweight in UFC’s history with a record of 26-2. He holds the record for 170-pound title defenses with nine and retires with a 13-game winning streak.

St-Pierre thanked his family, fans, coaches, trainers, partners, agents and employers, and gave a shout-out to his opponents as well.  He was the Sports Illustrated fighter of the year in 2009 and was nominated for best fighter at the ESPY awards four times (2008, 2010, 2011 and 2018).
